CBN NEWS – The University of Notre Dame has filed a lawsuit over Obamacare’s contraception coverage mandate.
The suit claims that requiring the university to offer birth control as part of its insurance plan violates the institution’s freedom of religion. The Catholic university says the birth control coverage mandate violates the church’s teaching prohibiting contraception.
Notre Dame filed a similar lawsuit in May 2012. A district judge dismissed that case last December, saying the university wasn’t facing any imminent penalty or restrictions because the federal government was reworking some of the coverage regulations.
The U.S. Supreme Court is currently considering two cases in which business owners have objected to covering birth control for employees on religious grounds.
